OK, for all you romantics out there, we think we've got the perfect
Valentine's Day date for you. Chris Yeaton will bring a show to our living
room unlike any we've ever presented. Hawaiian born Chris is a master of the
slack key style of guitar playing. Slack key guitar features finger picked
playing on chords where strings are detuned or "slacked" to create unique new
chords. Chris's style is heavily influenced by players such as Will Ackerman,
Alex DeGrassi, and Peppino D'Agostino. His songs are beautifully
evocative--and yes---very romantic!! Preview Chris's work on his website:

We'll open the show today with another wonderful finger style guitarist
who comes to us from much closer than Hawaii. Renee Lando will be coming to
us all the way from West Milford. Many of you have heard Renee play at Music
at the Mission in West Milford, as well as many other local venues. The fact
that her road hasn't taken her much beyond northern NJ is no reflection on her
talent. Renee is a truly fine composer and guitarist who also counts Will
Ackerman and Alex DeGrassi, as well as Tommy Emmanuel, among her
inspirations. You can also preview Renee's work on her website:
Music fans often talk about Texas as being home to some of the finest
songwriters in the world. Around here, we believe Texas' reputation as home
to some of the best is very well deserved. And fans often wonder about the
reasons why Texas is such a hotbed of talent. We like to believe that way
back when Texas was cutting its teeth as the breeding ground for brilliant
songwriters, there were a few there who really pointed the way. The first
wave of songwriting legends to call Texas home consisted of folks like Townes
Van Zandt, Guy Clark, and today's special guest, Eric Taylor. No less an
authority on Texas songwriters than Nanci Griffith has said of Eric, "To say
that Eric Taylor is one of the finest writers of our time, would be an
understatement. If you miss an opportunity to hear Eric Taylor, you have
missed a chance to hear a voice I consider the William Faulkner of songwriting
in our current time." And Nanci has backed up her praise for Eric by
recording a number of his tunes. Lyle Lovett has included a cover of Eric's
"Whooping Crane" on his latest cd. Eric writes songs that sound more like
little movies---the characters in his songs reflect every part of society and
the twists and turns Eric takes these folks on make for some of the most
compelling writing you'll ever hear.
Likewise, Eric's guitar work is exceptional---Eric is a true master and
this is a show not to be missed.
"Vacation with a Folkie" - August 17-19, 2010 - Lori McKenna, Tracy Grammer, and Mark Erelli
